How do they do what they do?  Quite simple really.  They focus on all aspects of the customer / client relationships thus facilitating loyalty that grows their business.  Here are specifics:
- They manufacture all of their shoes domestically.
- They focus on customer service thus building loyalty.
- They are accessible to customers.
- They talk to people not correspond with them.
- They are responsive to customer concerns or issues.
- Anticipate problems and solve them before they "go out."
- They create product prototypes that employees actually wear and test out before they make them.
- They do not predict what customers want, they work with them to find out.

Look at the fundamentals they cling to.  Not very complex is it? Those companies who have emphasized the customer relationships will survey these difficult economic times.  Those that serve poorly will pay a deep price , because without  loyal relationships customers will leave them.
